City Prepares to Reopen Municipal Golf Course

Post Date:04/30/2020 2:49 PM

4/30/2020…San Clemente, California… At its Tuesday, April 21 meeting, the San Clemente City Council voted to reopen the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course for public use with restrictions in place to encourage social distancing.

Beginning Saturday, May 2 at 6 a.m. the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course will reopen with revised operations to continue to mitigate the spread of the novel Coronavirus. Tee time reservations and payments must be completed online, in advance of coming to the golf course. Visit for information and reservations. Reservations can be made up to one week in advance. Tee time reservations will be open on Friday, May 1 at 6 a.m. Golfers are encouraged to setup an account for registration ahead of opening to ensure reservation efficiency.

Payments will not be accepted on site – walk-ups will not be accepted. Tee time check-in will be available adjacent to the first hole. Do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your reservation.

The following modifications have been made to the course operations:

  • Course is walking only with strict adherence to social distancing enforced by course marshals;
  • All ‘touch points’ have been eliminated – including the removal of all flag sticks, ball washers, and sand bunker rakes, and scorecards will not be provided;
  • Cups have been inverted on the greens for safe ball removal;
  • Groups are limited to no more than four players;
  • Time tees have been cut by 50% to avoid congregation of individuals waiting to start (reservations can be made every 15 minutes);
  • Upon completion of the round, individuals should proceed directly to their car and drive out of the immediate area to avoid congregation in the parking lot; and
  • There will be no “Early Morning Back Nine Play” available.

Additionally, based on guidance issued by the Orange County Health Care Agency, the following services will not be available:

  • Pro Shop rentals and services
  • Driving range
  • Practice facilities
  • Catering/bar services
  • Snack shack
  • Golf cart use (personal or course)
  • Course restrooms

These changes will remain in effect until further notice. For questions regarding these guidelines, please email
