San Clemente Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
The City of San Clemente has begun development of the City’s first Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan is being developed in conjunction with the development of the City’s New General Plan. The Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan will be a roadmap for developing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and programs in the City, with an emphasis on promoting walking and bicycling as viable transportation options and fostering a practical, safe, and enjoyable environment to do so. Playa Del Norte
On July 19th, the City Council voted 3-2 to approve the Alternative Site Plan with the Beach Trail Café. On May 19th, the Planning Commission voted 6-1 to recommend approval of the Alternative Site Plan and Architectural Features with the Beach Trail Café to the City Council. Corps of Engineers Beach Erosion Study
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is nearing completion of a beach erosion study and proposed sand replenishment project. A Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Report is available for public review through September 23, 2010. The report is available at the San Clemente Public Library or through the City’s website via the link below. A public workshop was held on August 19. The presentation provided by the Corps of Engineers is also available via the following document link.

    Target
    On May 18, 2010, the City Council unanimously approved the proposed Target retail store to be located at the North West corner of Avenida La Pata and Avenida Vista Hermosa. Target Corporation anticipates the store opening by winter 2011.

    A new aquatics center and sports complex complete with lighted football, soccer and baseball fields are coming to San Clemente! In partnership with the San Clemente Beaches, Parks and Recreation Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and the City of San Clemente, we have set the stage for a top-notch community park, expanding opportunities for recreation. We ask members of the community and area businesses to take a leading role in this exciting endeavor. To fully accomplish our goals, we will depend heavily on our donors to provide financial support.

    The City of San Clemente has prepared a Negative Declaration for the Draft Ordinance Prohibiting the Use of Expanded Polystyrene Disposable Food Service Ware, which is available for public review and comments through September 9, 2010. Also available are resources to assist food service businesses with finding alternative products and a list of vendors that supply these products.

    The bonding company for the project has assumed responsibility to complete the priority improvements. Work to complete Avenida Pico has begun and is expected to be completed in Spring 2011.

    The SC OPEN skate-surf contest promotes San Clemente’s local boarders while raising funds for the Beaches, Parks and Recreation Foundation. Skateboarders and shortboard surfers will have the opportunity to showcase their best skate run, wave or both! $35 to compete in each contest. All contestants will receive a contest t-shirt and have an opportunity to win prizes. On-site registration and pre-registration check-in will begin at 7:00am each day of the event.     California Coastal Cleanup Day
    Come be a part of one of the largest volunteer events of the year. In 2009, more than 80,600 volunteers worked together to collect more than 1,300,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways. Help us do our part in San Clemente.     Don't Be Alarmed!
    This year’s annual test of the emergency sirens in San Clemente will take place Wednesday, October 20th, from 10am to noon. Learn more about the siren system by clicking here.
    All of the sirens in the Emergency Planning Zone will be sounded multiple times, with a long constant tone lasting approximately 3 minutes each time. This includes the 19 sirens in our City. We will also test the public address capability of our four coastal sirens.
