NEW! Starting January 1, 2017, the new 2016 California Building Standards (California Code of Regulations Title 24) will be in effect. The standards consist of the Building Code, Residential Code, Electrical Code, Mechanical Code, Plumbing Code, Energy Code, and Green Building Standards Code.  For consideration under the 2013 codes, your project must be submitted on or before December 23rd as City offices are closed the week of December 26th.

Note that after January 1st, extensions for existing applications and permits under the 2013 Codes will no longer be granted.  A new application complying with the 2016 Codes will be required.

The primary purpose of the Building Code is to safeguard life and health for occupants of building. People take for granted that they are safe when they enter a building, whether it is their home, office or local restaurant. this is possible due to proper building code enforcement. The 2013 California Building Code state - The purpose of this code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings and structures.

The San Clemente Municipal Code has adopted the State of California Building Code along with a few local amendments. It is important to remember that only after proper permits have been obtained, do you have legal permission to start construction.
